Aren't British Authors the Greatest??

I figured that somehow all the books I read are by British authors.... For the last 2 years I read only one book written by an American...
This time my choice was: 
* Я тут поняла, что практически все книги, которые я читаю, в итоге оказываются написанными британскими авторами... За последние 2 года из всех книг, что я прочитала, только одна была американского автора...

Sophie Kinsella's book are always easy to read and always full of humour and romance... This is not the best book of this author and I probably wouldn't add it to a must-read-list... But it's still good and worth reading.... At least to fall in love with a handsome businessman =)))) 

The Family Way:  I got addicted to this author after I read his book Starting Over. So after that I bought a  whooooole bunch of his books. Again this book didn't turnt to be what I expected.. And still... Finishing every Tony Parson's book  I realize why I want to read more and more... "The Family Way" is pretty tough... This is a story of 3 sisters and 3 destinies...The book has a lot of drama, lots of not so pleasant phrases and from time to time I found myself thinking "Why in the world I keep on reading it?".... But then in a second the answer comes... Tony Parsons is the one who can show you true love... That kind of love that a man feels for his wife, for his kids... That kind of love that binds a family together.. In his books you won't find those cheesy declarations of love that most of the books have... No... Tony Parsons shows feelings... mostly through emotions and thoughts of his characters... Even though the book was predictable I'll still read all of the Parsons' book =))) 

* Девушка и призрак: Книги Софи Кинселлы всегда легко читаются... в них всегда много юмора и романтики... Хоть это и не самая лучшая книга этой писательницы и я ,скорее всего, не внесла бы ее в список книг обязательных к прочтению... Но тем не менее почитать ее стоит... Хотя бы для того, чтобы влюбиться в красивого бизнесмена с щетиной =)))))) 

*The Family Way или Семья: Я полюбила этого писателя с тех самых пор, как прочитала книгу "Starting Over или Наперегонки с судьбой". После этого сразу купила кууууучу его книг... Это произведение вновь оказалось не совсем тем, что я ожидала....Но тем не менее, каждый раз, когда дочитываю книги Тони Парсонса, понимаю, почему хочется читать его снова и снова... "Семья" довольно тяжелая книга.. Это история о 3-х сестрах, 3-х судьбах... Тут много драмы и не очень приятных фраз.... и время от времени я ловила себя на мысли "Почему я вообще продолжаю читать эту книгу??".... Но через секунду ответ приходит сам собой... Тони Парсонс умеет показать настоящую любовь.... Ту,которую мужчина испытывает к жене и детям... Ту любовь, которая связывает всех членов семьи....У него в книгах нет слащавых признаний в любви, как в большинстве других ... Нет... Тони Парсонс показывает чувства в основном через эмоции и мысли своих персонажей... Хоть эта книга и была довольно предсказуемой, все равно прочитаю все-все-все книги этого автора =))) 

I Heart Hollywood

This book is a continuation of another book I read a while ago (I Heart New York).

Hahahaha... Seriuosly... If you're a girl and love some chick-lit this series is just great... 

I loved both of the books cuz the main character is a clutz and reminds me of me myself =)))))))))) 

It has humour, romance and style =)))) 

So now I can't wait to read other books from the series =))) 

* "Я Люблю Голливуд"

Эта книга - продолжение книги "Я люблю Нью-Йорк".

Если вы - девушка и любите книги в стиле чиклит, то эта серия как раз для вас!!! =)))) 

Мне очень понравились обе книги, потому что главная героиня неуклюжая и растяпа, что очень напомнило мне меня саму =)))))) 

Там есть юмор, романтика и стиль =)))) 

Так что я не могу дождаться и прочитать все книги из этой серии =))) 

One For My Baby

Yep.... Finished another Tony Parsons' book =))) You can also read about his books I read here and here.

Eeeehhhmmm..... I seriously have no idea what I can say about this book...... To be completely honest I'm kinda disappointed.... It took me a loooong time to finish it...Cuz it was pretty much boring...

Seeing the title "One for my baby" I expected smth about great, deep and never ending love... something tender...filled with feelings.... 

Well.... It is.... But (!!!).... not in the way you expect.... 

Even though the author tells us a story about a man who lost his wife and lost himself in life...a man trying to find a new love....

What I really really LOVED about the book....is the relationship between the main character and his grandma.... When it comes to the family...Parsons seems to be a professional in describing and making you feel every tiny piece of a big and warm love for someone... 

I gotta admit.... this book made me cry...and that doesn't happen often.... not me crying.. but a book making me cry =)))))))))) 

* Да... Наконец-то дочитала еще одну книгу Тони Парсонса =)) 

Ээээмммм..... На самом деле даже не представляю, что сказать о ней..... А если совсем честно.... после прочтения была немного разочарована.... Читала я ее дооооооолго, по больше части было скучно... 

Когда видишь название "One for my baby" (они это почему-то перевели как "За мою любимую"), ожидаешь историю о великой, глубокой и нескончаемой любви... что-то нежное и наполненное чувствами....

Так и есть.... Но (!!!)... совсем в другом виде....

Хоть автор и повествует нам историю о человеке, который потерял свою жену... потерял себя в жизни... и пытается обрести новую любовь...

Все же больше всего мне полюбилась часть, где показаны отношения главного героя со своей бабушкой...Когда речь заходит о семье.... Парсонс просто профессионал в том, как он описывает и заставляет вас прочувствовать каждую крохотную частичку большой и теплой любви к кому-то.....

Должна признать.... я расплакалась, пока читала.... а такое бывает редко..... не слезы.... а расплакаться, пока читаешь =))))  

Stories We Could Tell

Yet another book by Tony Parsons that I finished reading a while ago. 

Here's a short review: Tony Parsons writes for the first time about his rock and roll years in a touching novel about friendship and growing up. This is the UK of the summer of 1977 - in the midst of the Silver Jubilee celebrations, a generation are trying to grow up and discovering the limits of freedom. It is 16th August 1977 - the night Elvis died - and for the heroes of STORIES WE COULD TELL, this night is where their adult lives begin. 

And here's a song that the book's title is taken from. It kinda shows the mood of the book.

The last book I read was Starting Over. This book is different. It's totally different. Tony Parsons began his career as a music journalist and here it is... This book is full of music.... Its every page makes you think of some artist or band. And you're lucky if you know all of them, cuz then you'll feel much more reading this book. One of the reviews said that this book is about sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll.... This book is about friendship, drugs and rock 'n' roll...well... at least for me =))) 

It's truly about growing up and how only one night can change your life, turn it upside down and make you an absolutely different person.

The Secret Life of a Slummy Mummy

Read this book a while ago....I can't say that I totally loved it but it wasn't bad. I didn't waste time reading it.

Also this book is about cheating and temptations during the "married life" . It shows that even when you're married there are still people that you find attractive and sometimes you can't fight this feeling and get overwhelmed by it. This book shows all the possible sides of cheating. A woman and a man who both tried to fight the attraction between them, a man who cheated on his wife, a woman who that man cheated with, and a woman who was cheated on.....That's alot, huh???? This book also shows what kind of a wife none of us really want to be or have =))) But I admired the husband of the main character cuz even though she was so clumsy, silly, absent-minded and so on.... They still had 3 kids and loved each other...

Hippopotamus

To be honest when I just started reading it I wanted to just stop and never finish it... But... I told myself that if I started I'll finish it no matter what =)))) 

I longed to buy a book by Stephen Fry cuz I heard that his style is very much like Hugh Laurie's. So I bought this one cuz it was thick and I couldn't wait to start =)))))

But... during the first half of the book I was surprisingly disappointed...It seemed to me so boring and didn't make any sense.... But then.... I got into it and it got much more interesting cuz I wanted to know the secret the book was hiding... 

And yay!!! I finally finished it.... 

Well.... What can I say??? If you're brave... you can try and read it...But be ready cuz this book is mostly for pretty dirty and perverted people =)))))) 

It has some scenes that made my mouth drop open in surprise cuz I'm just not that dirty =)))) 

Now I have doubts whether I want to read other books by this author.... I really wonder what they are like cuz there are tons of people that adore Stephen Fry and everything he does... But I'm kinda afraid of what he might write =))))

Books World

My whole life I HATED reading.... There were tons of books I had to read for my classes but all of them were super boring. That made me hate reading even more. I often wished to find at least ONE book that would be interesting and absorbing... No luck.... 
Once my teacher told me to read "To Kill a Mockingbird" and yay!! That was the very first book that I actually enjoyed reading. 
After graduation from university I told myself: "I gotta start reading!!! I want it!!! I MUST find smth!!!"
After a while I came across this blog where I found a review for this book:

 

And that's where my journey to the "Books World" began. It took me just two days to read it. Amazing book!!! Super funny!!! The language of the book is very "girlish" that any girl will understand =)))) Reading of this book wasn't enough so I read two more books of this author =))))

Same style...same humour...same good =)))

Next book in my list was this:

   

Beautiful language... A book about love between brothers and making one big choice in life =) Pretty touching =)

And the last book I read for now was this one 

This man is amazing!!! This book may seem kinda boring because not many things happen (even though it embraces about 10 years of the main hero's life)... But this book seemed so touching to me. Tony Parsons showed exactly how a father feels for his kids, his worries about them....(it showed me exactly how I know my father felt for me) and it also shows what deep feelings a husband may have for his wife. All I can say is that this book is great and I long to read ALL of the books by this author. 


That's it!!! Not bad for the start, huh?? =)))) 

The Gun Seller

 

Yup... As you can see the author is Hugh Laurie (most known as just House) =)))) 

                  

I started watching "House" just recently and found out that it's really awesome!!! As a character House is of genious!!! Then I watched some interviews with Hugh Laurie himself and realised that his personality is as genious as House's =))) I also found out that in the UK he's most known not as an actor but as a book- and script-writer. So I found his book The Gun Seller online and now I'm totally enjoying reading it!!! =))) The language is pretty simple but it has a lot of different ironic comments that make the book absorb you =))) Let me share a few of my favorite ones for now:

- I think I'd known she was going to be American before she opened her mouth. Too healthy to be anything else. And where do they get those teeth? 

- "Look," I said, "I haven't been entirely straight with you." She turned towards me and narrowed her eyes. If you know what I mean by that. Narrowed them horizontally, not vertically. I suppose one should say shortened her eyes, but nobody ever does.

-She just played with it slowly, and then pointed a pair of grey eyes at me. I say a pair. I mean her pair. She didn't get a pair of someone else's out from a drawer and point them at me. She pointed her own pair of huge, pale, grey, pale, huge eyes at me. The sort of eyes that can make a grown man talk gibberish to himself.

- This was the tricky bit. The really tricky bit. Trickness cubed.

- She stopped breathing. I mean, she actually stopped breathing. And didn't look as if she had any plans to start again in the near future. 

- One of the crassest, most ridiculous remarks I've ever made, in a long, ridiculous-remark-packed life.
